why do they call it corned beef when it has no corn in it?

The term "corned" beef comes from the use of the English word "corn", meaning any small particle (such as a grain of salt) BREAST OF BEEF But 3 to 4 lb. chest 2 oranges, sliced 2 onions, sliced 4 stalks celery, halved 2 garlic cloves, in quarters 2 bay leaves 2 tbsp Tea. 1 tsp Tea dill seeds. Rosemary 12 whole cloves 6 cinnamon sticks Arrange half seasonings all on heavy foil. Place meat on top. Add the remaining seasonings. Foil. Place in shallow dish. Bake 3 1 / 2 to 4 hours until tender oven to 325 degrees. Do not open until done. .
