Pulled BBQ Chicken in the crockpot?
I want to make BBQ pulled chicken in a crockpot (I use sweet baby rays barbecue sauce). I did it with pulled pork and it turned out awesome. I cooked shredded pork without the sauce and then when I got home he added. With chicken I know it's probably different. I leave for work and prb wont be home for 10 hours later (I have a timer on my cooker) … So I can always put it. Does anyone have a recipe that uses regular bbq sauce (do not make a )…. and the chicken will not overcook. I am afraid the sauce will burn on top if I cook it so long?
Put the meat in the pot, add 1 bottle of sauce (I like Sweet Baby Ray's barbecue sauce), then just enough water to cover meat. Remove the meat for a second so you can mix water and sauce. I then stirred in a little black pepper (1-2 tbsp), some garlic powder (1-2 tbsp) and dry onions (1/4C) (you can also onions sliced real and some crushed garlic cloves in place – I just did not have on hand.) I also threw in a few Russet potatoes, quartered. Put the meat back in and start the slow cooker. 6 hours later high, it was time for dinner. This is called braising meat, and here's the best part – it will not cook the meat. The liquid only reaches a certain temperature, and stays there. The lid on the pot hold most of the water to evaporate, if things do not dry. You could theoretically leave it simmering in its juices and the sauce for days without too bake or dry the chicken.
