crockpot wild rice
Do I put it in raw or cooked?

I have a crockpot and have been making things like chicken wild rice soup, beef stew, etc etc etc. I’ve always cooked the meat first before adding it to the crockpot. Am I suppose to? It seems like it takes the convienence away from having a crockpot. But still…… I was unsure. The site I get recipies from she uses all frozen meat. So she just says “x amount frozen chicken” and I have no idea if her meat is already cooked or not because she makes no mention of whether I should cook it or not. I always buy fresh meat.

I just saw a show regarding crockpot cooking on the Food Channel. They said it did not matter, but searing the meat for about 5 minutes on each side adds flavor and locks in the juices. I have also read that searing doesn’t lock in the juices but does add flavor. There was one crock pot that allows you to place it on the stove first, sear the meat, then add the veggies and liquid and place it in the crockpot holder. I would opt for the flavor. Happy crocking!
