Can you cook meatballs in the crockpot?

I make my own meatballs and cook them in the oven, I then place them in my crock pot and cook them in some kind of sauce (spaghetti, sweet & sour etc.) but they usually don’t taste like the sauce when I’m done, so what I wanna know is can I put them in the crock pot raw and cook it in the sauce longer…or I am open to any other suggestions (besides buying the kind already made at the store)!

i like to fry first
but my mom never does
she drops them into pipping hot sauce and lets them cook about 4 hours in the sauce
they cook through but you dont get any texture to the outside because they are nto fired
they are very tender though
